Having acne scars can have a strong negative impact on your social life. It can make heads turn and not in a good way. While some can understand this others simply can?t. Personally I have seen how difficult it can be having acne scars and roaming about in public.
Even in the media, people with acne are treated very badly. Have you ever opened up a celebrity magazine or gossip magazine to take a look? Try it and you’ll see how people are always trying to point out skin flaws such as acne on celebrities. It’s even worse for ‘normal’ people who don’t have a professional makeup artist at hand.
One of the most popular methods in which to get rid of acne scars is by way of laser treatment. The laser treatment for acne scars is exactly as it sounds. A laser is used to burn off the skin tissue and remove the scars. Yes it can be very painful and no it is not a 100 percent success story.
Laser treatments for acne are not cheap and that’s for good reason because the technology is really advanced. And you do need a few sessions before they work. However, they are very effective in removing acne scars, even old acne scars that have been around for a long time. Yes, they don’t just work on new or fresh acne scars.
Acne treatments like lasers work differently for everyone. The price of laser treatments will also differ because everyone has a different type of acne scars. The larger or more deeply ingrained your acne scar is, the more costly it will be to remove it.
Acne scar treatments should be done gradually over a certain period of time. You can’t just do them once and expect the acne scars to clear up. 3 to 4 months is a good amount of time to spend on removing acne scars. This also depends on that type of acne treatments you choose to use.
Laser acne therapies also require that you take care of your skin before you go out everyday. Sunscreen is a most to protect your skin and make sure that melanin does not go deep into your skin and cause it go turn darker. How successful are laser therapies usually? They work incredibly well in most cases and have a high success rate of over 80% most of the time.
Consulting a dermatologist is the first step you must take before taking on any laser acne treatments. It’s important to make sure that you use the right acne laser treatment because you need to ensure that its perfect for your skin. Doctors will know best when it comes to this.
Understanding how laser treatments work is the first step and it can really help a great deal when you want to get rid of acne scars really fast. Anyway, start by doing a simple google search for laser acne treatments and then find the right treatments by doing a careful study of its methods and prices. This will help you tremendously.

Dark bags under the eyes appear for many different reasons and this can really affect the way you look. When people talk to you they will notice your eyes and having dark eye bags gives off all of the wrong impression and makes you look weary and unhealthy. Here are some tips on non surgical eye bag removal to remove the problem without any surgery.
First of all, your sleeping habit is very important in many ways and one of these is in making your look bright and fresh each and every day. To get rid of them permanently, simply make sure that you develop a good sleeping pattern that you are able to stick to.
Secondly, make sure that you are having a nice healthy diet. The cause of your eye bags could quite easily be a simple vitamin deficiency so if you are able to turn this around you should see the bags disappear. You should eat lots of fruit and vegetables, as well as getting a multivitamin supplement into your daily routine.
You also need to focus on your lifestyle in other ways. If you drink too much or smoke too much then this is going to have a negative effect on your health and therefore your appearance in a number of different ways. Ensure that you cut down on any of these harmful habits in order to remove eye bags.
It is also crucial that you get less sodium into your diet as this causes water retention which can lead to the problem. You need to ensure that you are avoiding foods that are high in sodium and not getting too much salt into your foods.
If you follow these tips your under eye bags should disappear in time.
On the other hand, you do have the option to use a non-surgical eye bag removal treatment. You must find an eye bags removal cream or serum that contains Eyeliss and Haloxyl. why?
Research studies found that Haloxyl is effective at reducing bags and dark circles under the eyes by more than 60%.
In the study, 22 female volunteers were asked to apply a gel containing 2% Haloxyl to their skin around the eyes, and another group applied a placebo. After 56 days, the results indicated that there were more than 60% reduction in dark circles under the eyes of the volunteers that were using the eye gel with Haloxyl.
Haloxyl helps to thicken the skin under the eyes, boost blood circulation and remove accumulated haemoglobin, effectively producing a lighter effect on the under eye skin.
The eye gel that was used in this test is made by a company in New Zealand, and it is called the Xtend Life Eye Contour Serum for women. This eye bag treatment has a version for men, specifically formulated for men’s skin type, and is also available on the website.

Medical Researchers Looking At Sandalwood

Overview
Sandalwood has been praised for centuries for its medicinal properties and ceremonial significance, as well as for its yellowish heartwood (middle of the tree). Taxonomically included in the Santalaceae family and the genus Santalum, this semiparasitic plant (partially use nutrients from other plants; sandalwood seedlings must first become attached to the roots of other plants) is distributed throughout southeastern Asia and the islands of the South Pacific. The most notable members of this group are Indian sandalwood (Santalum album) and Australian sandalwood (Santalum spicatum). Other plant species are sometimes substituted for sandalwoods, such as red sandalwood (Pterocarpus santalinus in the pea family) but are not of the true genus and are of inferior quality. An authentic sandalwood tree grows to a height of about 10 meters (33 feet) and has leathery leaves in pairs, each opposite the other on the branch. Both tree and roots contain yellow aromatic oil; the scent of sandalwood oil persists in the wood for years and used for ornamental boxes and statues. The extracted essential oil is highly prized in Southeast Asia, Saudi Arabia and now the United States.
True sandalwood contains aromatic heartwood (middle) and roots which when harvested are used for furniture items as well as distilled for its highly prized essential oil. Plantations have been set aside in both India and Australia to meet growing demand for Santalum essential oil. Sandalwood harvesting and manufacturing of incense sticks, furniture and essential oil provides great employment for many in India, especially in southern India. The value of sandalwood in India cannot be overstated. Besides its ceremonial significance, sandalwood is used extensively in Indian Ayurvedic medicine. The harvest and processing of sandalwood is strictly regulated and private ownership of the trees is not permitted. Since 1792 trees have been considered of Indian royalty and thus well guarded and protected. These valued trees take decades to develop their rich aromatic wood and are not considered commercially viable until at least forty years of age, but trees have been harvested at thirty to meet rising requests for its processed products.
Much of the valuable wood is found in the roots of sandalwood and thus harvested by uprooting the entire tree versus cutting it at the trunk. In the last few years alone, the price of sandalwood has skyrocketed, mainly due to rising demand and limited supply. Increased demand has mainly come from the perfume and aromatherapy industry. Sandalwood essential oil and paste is used in Indian and Chinese medicine and of course aromatherapy botanical medicine. The perfume industry covets this oil for its ability to blend well with other perfume oils; hence, it is used extensively in hundreds of cosmetic products.
Over the centuries, the use of sandalwood and its products have been an integral part of several religious cultures. It scent, either as an essential oil or ground as incense, is thought to bring one closer to the Divine. Hindus burn incense made from sandalwood oil in burial pyres and at funerals. It’s also used in temples to remind people of the heavenly realms. Yogis in India use the oil to anoint each other during ceremonies and before meditation as well deity statues often made of sandalwood itself.
Sandalwood Used to Fight Anti-microbial Bacteria
In late December of 2009 a length article by the Associated Press entitled “Pressure Rises to Stop Antibiotics in Agriculture” reported on rapidly emerging bacteria that are resistant to current antibiotics from supposed misuse of antibiotics in the agriculture industry. It was all over the internet in a matter of days. The article provides quotes from professors, researchers as well as government agencies all expressing deep concern and even alarm at the rate of microbial resistance to standard treatment. The Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS) web page includes recent studies regarding antimicrobial resistance in Escherichia coli and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MSRA) (both of which cause great harm to humans and animals alike) linked to heavy uses in food agriculture. This scientifically sound web site also provided a press conference statement (way back in 2001) by Margaret Mellon, Ph.D., director of UCS Food and Environment Program stating that 70% of total antibiotic production is devoted to non-therapeutic uses in the cattle, swine and poultry industry. It seems plausible that over the last nine years since this press release, microbes have developed an armor of resistance to antibiotic treatments.
Concern for antibiotic-resistant microbes is worldwide. A need to find alternatives to conventional antibiotic treatment is rising. Essential oils have been gaining attention by research scientists for their antimicrobial properties. A collaborative study of researchers in Austria and Germany (Flavor and Fragrance Journal 2006 May/Jun; 21(3): 465-468) found that santalols of sandalwood (the main chemical components of sandalwood) in medium and/or high concentrations showed significant antimicrobial potential against the yeast Candida albicans, the Gram-positive bacterium Staphylococcus aureus, and the Gram-negative bacteria Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
Additional Applications
The Australian and Indian Santalum species, found to be similar in chemical composition, are known by aromatherapists to have such therapeutic properties as anti-inflammatory, antiphlogistic (reduces fever), antiseptic (as mentioned above), antispasmodic (relieves muscle spasms), astringent, carminative (relieves flatulence), demulcent (reduces irritation), diuretic (soft and soothing to skin), emollient, expectorant, as a sedative and general tonic. Their principle chemical constituents are alpha-santalol and beta-santalol. According to a study conducted by the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and South Dakota University (Anticancer Research 2007 Jul-Aug; 27(4B): 2185-8) application of the chemical compound alpha-santalol prevents UVB-induced skin tumor development in mice. Sandalwood is also thought to help alleviate the symptoms of depression as reported by the University of Maryland Medical Center (www.umm.edu).
Conclusion
The value of sandalwood in some cultures goes back centuries – from burning the fragrant incense in temples to using the oil in sacred ceremonies. In the commerce of today, sandalwood is highly prized by the perfume industry as well as those in aromatherapy. Recent science studies indicate that sandalwood and its principle component alpha-santalol have antiseptic as well antitumor capabilities. With the growing concern of antibiotic-resistant bacteria of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Candida in both hospital and public environments, serious investigation into the possible uses to of alternative therapies is well underway. Consideration of essential oils, and in this case Santalum album and Santalum spicatum are prime candidates for meeting modern medical needs.

Understanding the Cause of Cellulite
November 18, 2009 by Patricia Hammond

Cellulite is one of the foremost causes of insecurity among people. Anyone with cellulite would simply wish to cover up even at the beach. More determined individuals however are set on getting rid of cellulite. Understanding the main cause of cellulite is the first key to helping prevent or get rid of cellulite.
Spotting Cellulite
Cellulite is that dimpling, clustered, soft and tiny bumps and lumps under the skin. Cellulite is often found on the buttocks and thighs. It was believed for some time that cellulite was a disorder among fat women. It has since been established however that cellulite can also be found among thin women and sometimes even among men. Thin people can often find out if they have cellulite by pinching the skin in between the thumb and forefinger. Dimpled pinched skin is a sign that there is cellulite underneath that thin appearance.
Fats and Cellulite
The major cause of cellulite is related to body fat. Underneath the skin are collagen connective tissues that separate the fat into honeycomb compartments. These connective tissues also connect body fats with skin tissues. The fats in the compartments may begin to expand due to weight gain or increased water retention, making the connective tissues expand. When the tissues have expanded beyond their capacity, they will harden and make the skin inflexible. When this happens, the fat will begin to spill over, resulting in a lumpy appearance.
Cellulite Cause Theories
There are many theories as to why and how fats develop and accumulate the way it does. Genes and hormone levels may cause cellulite. There may be no way to avoid cellulite if you are genetically predisposed to develop them.
Cellulite can develop mainly during puberty and pregnancy where women are experiencing erratic changes in their hormone level. Increased levels of estrogen may be a cause of cellulite production.
People with poor blood circulation are also likely to develop cellulites. It is generally accepted that healthy blood flow helps in the elimination of body waste including excess body fats. Blood circulation may be impeded by a tremendous lack of body movement compounded by a diet that is high in fats. A general lack of exercise and a poor diet therefore may result in poor blood circulation and poor fat burn up that may lead to cellulite production.
One other theory for the cause of cellulite is called the free radical theory. Our body may contain excessive amounts of free radicals which may attack other cells in the body. This may cause damage to the circulatory system and to the skin organ itself. Damage to the circulatory system may mean less efficiency in body waste disposal and less chances of vitamins and minerals being transported to body cells and tissues. Damage to the skin may result in a reduction in collagen and elastin thereby speeding up the visible effects of cellulite.
Cellulite and Treatment
As treatment, some people take oral medications and pills to eliminate or reduce cellulite. Oral treatments however may not be completely effective. The damage to the circulatory system may prevent the effective transport of oral medication. Topical treatments are almost always more effective. Pick a topical treatment that is rich in free radical fighting antioxidants like Revitol to help with proper blood circulation and skin firming.
The best cellulite remedy should be effective, natural and safe to use. See your options for the best natural cellulite remedy and get rid of those cellulites fast.
Dangerous Cosmetics Rampage. But There Are Safe Cosmetics.
November 3, 2009 by Peter Albertonach
Would you assume that the cosmetics, or perhaps the cosmetics that your daughter uses, would be safe to use. It would seem reasonable to make that assumption. We should all be able to assume that the government would protect us from dangerous products like dangerous cosmetics. Sadly it doesn’t, and you need to source safe cosmetics so you’re not taking a risk with your health. Are you using safe cosmetics?
No you aren’t using safe cosmetics if you’re using big brand name cosmetics. The government doesn’t protect you against dangerous ingredients in your cosmetics and the cosmetics companies don’t either. There is a whole range of nasty ingredients in your big brand name cosmetics including lead, dioxane and parabens.
Doesn’t the FDA do something about this? Sadly again, no. The FDA does not test or examine cosmetic products to establish that they are safe for human use and don’t contain harmful ingredients, and even admit to this on the FDA website. The government does not act in our best interests by ensuring that the cosmetics that millions of American women use every single day are safe to use, and as a result we have dangerous cosmetics on the shelves of our major department stores.
This is now such a problem that there are whole organizations set up to raise public awareness about the risks of dangerous cosmetics, and the need to find a source of safe cosmetics.
But the government isn’t listening to the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics, and the cosmetics companies aren’t either. And so there is nothing being done to raise the safety of those blushes, mascaras, eye shadows, lipsticks, bronzers and more that US women use daily, not realizing that they may be damaging their health.
There’s lots of examples, here’s 2.
The Campaign For Safe Cosmetics initiated laboratory testing of major brand name lipsticks in 2007. The report was astonishing. More than 50% of big brand name lipsticks, including some of the biggest names that you may well use now, contained lead. And you’re not even immune if you buy the most expensive brands, they were represented amongst the lipsticks that contained lead as well.
Back in 2002 laboratory tests found Phthalates in the majority of 72 different common big brand beauty, personal care and body products, including cosmetics, that most American women take for granted. This includes products from Calvin Klein, Christian Dior and Revlon. Phthalates are industrial chemicals linked to birth defects and abnormalities in male reproductive organs.
And included common household use products like shampoos and toothpastes as well as beauty and cosmetic products.
Of the 72 tested 52 contained Phthalates, and of course the labels didn’t disclose this.
Now is that scary or what?
So should you just swear off cosmetics? No not at all. There are excellent and safe cosmetics available but they aren’t made by the big brand names and aren’t found on the shelves of your local store. They are made by companies that are prepared to evidence their commitment to making safe cosmetics. They have signed a pledge on the website of the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics evidencing their commitment to making cosmetics using only ingredients known to be safe.
But I’ll bet you’ve never heard of these small niche companies because they can’t compete with the big brands on TV advertising, but nevertheless they make excellent and safe ranges of cosmetics.

Are Your Cosmetics Dangerous To Your Health?
September 9, 2009 by Peter Albertonach
The big name cosmetics lines that you find in your stores and that you may even be using today have suspect or even dangerous ingredients in them. Where do you find safe cosmetics to use?
It’s unfortunate but the FDA doesn’t test the ingredients going into cosmetics and doesn’t have to satisfy itself that they are safe for us to use. Or safe for human consumption.
Human consumption? Isn’t that a little silly, we don’t eat our cosmetics.
Well in effect we do. When you put a skin care product or a cosmetic product on your face some of it is absorbed into your skin, and from there it gets into your bloodstream, just as if you had eaten it.
Some of the ingredients, including potentially dangerous ingredients, have found their way into your system.
And there really are some quite nasty ingredients in cosmetics. And in skin care and anti aging products, personal and beauty and body care products and more. Lipsticks, mascaras, eye shadows, bronzers, blushes, foundations and other cosmetics have been found to have dangerous ingredients in them, some of which have been shown to cause cancer.
Here’s a quote from the FDA that might make you wonder:
The regulatory requirements governing the sale of cosmetics are not as stringent as those that apply to other FDA-regulated products Manufacturers may use any ingredient or raw material, except for color additives and a few prohibited substances, to market a product without a government review or approval.
Scary isnt it?
The problem is so bad that there are now entire organizations set up to try and stop the spread of dangerous ingredients in our cosmetics. One of them, possibly the best known, is the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics.
If you get to their website you’ll find they say this.
1. A study of big brand name lipsticks has found that a majority of them had lead in them.
Christian Dior Addict Cover Girl Incredifull Lipcolor Maximum Red True Red and Positive Red LOreal Colour Riche were included. And the tainted lipsticks included some expensive brands too, so it doesn’t help to pay more.
2. And there are some brands of cosmetics, or some individual products, that contain 1,4-Dioxane, and if you look on their labels you won’t find it listed as an ingredient.
There’s dozens of examples, I won’t bore you listing them all, though I talk about this on my website. But the real question is, how do you find safe cosmetics?
Yes you can find safe cosmetics, just as you can find safe (and very effective) safe skin care products.
There are various cosmetics companies working hard to produce safe, and high quality cosmetics for the consumer. And the Campaign For Safe Cosmetics has a register that companies can sign to pledge themselves to using only safe ingredients in their cosmetics and skincare and anti-aging products.
They can’t compete with the big brands on TV advertising, so chances are you’ve never heard of them, but their products are top shelf, though you won’t actually find them on any of the shelves of the stores.
If you head over to my website you’ll find out who are the very best of the manufacturers of high quality skin care products and cosmetics.
You might be looking for either skin care products or cosmetics or other beauty products, either way you can buy confident you aren’t risking your health.
